Hot Flashes - Hot Weather - OH MY!
Sage (salvia officinalis)
Herbalists have been recommending sage tea for women suffering from excessive sweating and hot flashes for years. Hot flashes are the sudden, feverish increases in body temperature caused by the fluctuation of hormones during menopause. Sage contains flavonoids, volatile oils and tannins. These medicinal properties have hormone balancing, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and astringent properties that may be helpful for treating hot flashes.
How to make cooling Sage Tea!
Step 1. Prepare an infusion of sage tea. Bring 8 ounces of water to a boil in a kettle. Pour the water into a tea cup.
Step 2. Add 1 tsp of dried sage to the hot water. Cover the cup with a pot cover or small plate and let the mixture steep for at least 10 minutes.
Step 3. Strain the tea. Drink the tea cold (over ice) or warm, if you wish add honey and lemon juice to taste. Drink sage tea at the onset of a hot flash. You may also drink a serving as a preventative measure for hot flashes.
