Harm Reduction

In recent years, Dane County has seen a significant increase in the number of opioid overdoses and deaths. This problem is affecting individuals from all walks of life, and Community Pharmacy is dedicated to doing whatever we can to help. We are part of the Wisconsin state Naloxone protocol, which allows the pharmacist to provide Naloxone without direct prescriptions to individuals at risk of an opioid overdose. The pharmacy can also provide Naloxone to family, friends and anyone who may witness an opioid overdose thanks to our partnership with Public Health Madison & Dane County.

Partnerships

We are partnered with Public Health Madison and Dane County’s Syringe Services Program as a satellite location so we can provide the public with free Harm Reduction Supplies, such as Fentanyl Test Strips, Narcan, and Syringe Kits at our 130 South Fair Oaks Avenue location.

Vivent Health provides us with free sexual health supplies and information for the community. We have multiple types of condoms, dental dams, and lubricants available for free at our Pharmacy counter, as well as information on HIV testing and medications. We have recently partnered with the SASY Neighborhood Association to provide Narcan to the public at local businesses and events in the SASY Neighborhood. If you are a SASY Neighborhood business that would like more information on having Narcan or other Harm Reduction Supplies at your location, please contact us.

Fentanyl Test Strips

As the Fentanyl Crisis grows in the US, Fentanyl Test Strips are valuable resource to have. These test strips come in packs of three with directions provided, and they quickly test substances for the presence of Fentanyl.

Narcan

Nasal Narcan saves lives. We encourage those who use Opioids to keep Narcan in their medicine cabinets. We also believe Narcan is a must have for those who use any drugs as there is an increased risk of Fentanyl contamination.

Syringe Kits

At Community Pharmacy, we provide free 1 and 1/2 cc Syringe Kits and corresponding supplies. We may ask you for demographic information when picking up supplies to help Public Health MDC. This information is optional.

Sexual Health Supplies

Through our partnership with Vivent Health we provide condoms, lubricants, dental dams, and other sexual health supplies and information for free at the Pharmacy counter and at special events.
